Approval of the import and/or use of the LMO(s) with conditions
- Fertile plant material (peas) has to be transported and stored in closed and clearly labelled repositories at any time outside the release site and laboratory. The label needs to distinctively describe the LMO and it needs to be noted that these peas are unfit for consumption.
- The release site has to be covered with a bird net. During the first year of the field trial the bird net has to be put over the plants latest at the begin of seed maturity; in the second year of the field trial immediately after sowing.
- To prevent loss of sown pea seeds, sandbags have to be stored at the release site to take appropriate measure in case of a floodwater [remark: the release site of this field trial was located close to a creek that is threatened by floodwaters].
- All remaining green plant material has to be inactivated by burning or autoclaving; plant material must not be left at the release field for composting.
- After completion of the field trial a monthly inspection of the release site for transgenic pea volunteers has to be accomplished for one year. The inspection period is extended for another year if volunteers were observed. Plant material has to be removed and destroyed.
